The Biological and Agri-food Engineering specialisation (GBA, formerly STIA) trains generalist engineers (bac+5) for jobs in the agri-food and biotechnology sectors, with an awareness of sustainable development and the ability to adapt to different corporate cultures.

ALL THE SCHOOL'S COURSES ARE BASED ON A NETWORK OF SOLID PARTNERSHIPS WITH :

- the industrial world (800 internships, 200 industrial projects and 50 apprenticeship contracts per year),

Professionals from the food and organic sector play an important role in ABM training:

- they contribute to the updating of programmes,

- they give courses and conferences,

- they participate in seminars and round tables organised by the school,

- They are also involved in the follow-up of student-engineers on internships and industrial projects.

The school is an associate member of the Terralia and Qualiméditerranée competitiveness clusters. It has also signed an agreement with LRIA and Ecotrophélia France.

Know-how and skills

Upon graduation, the GBA student-engineer :

- Has acquired a solid foundation in biology, biochemistry, physical chemistry, nutrition, biological engineering and process engineering;

- Has a good knowledge of bioprocesses and food technologies related to the design and the sanitary, organoleptic and nutritional quality of food and biological matrices;

- Is capable of managing the technical, human and economic aspects of a project in the field of biological and food products and processes, and of proposing optimisations and innovations in compliance with regulations and in a sustainable development approach.

He/she is able to perform the following functions:

- Research and Development (R&D) Engineer

- Quality-Safety-Environment (QSE) Engineer

- Commercial and technical engineer

- Supply chain engineer

Organization

Internships, tutored projects

The student-engineers carry out several internships in companies or research laboratories:

- one month internship at the end of the3rd year;

- 2 to 3 months internship at the end of the4th year;

- 5-6 month internship at the end of the5th year.

In the5th year, they carry out an industrial end-of-studies project (300 hours) which places them in a professional situation and allows them to develop their autonomy.

Biological and agri-food engineering

Training of generalist engineers for jobs in the agri-food and biological engineering sectors (biotechnologies, cosmetics, health and nutrition). Graduates of the GBA specialisation are capable of carrying out missions consisting of ensuring the production of food and biological products, developing innovative products or processes, and optimising and making reliable the processes implemented in these sectors in compliance with regulations and the environment. They are aware of sustainable development and are able to adapt to different company cultures.

Admission

Target audience

In3rd year

- For students of preparatory classes for the grandes écoles (CPGE): recruitment by the POLYTECH competitive examination.

- For holders of a L2, L3, DUT, BTS or equivalent foreign diploma: competitive examination based on application and interview.

- For PeiP2 students: after validation of the course and national interclassification.

In4th year

For holders of an M1 or equivalent foreign diploma: competitive examination based on application and interview.

Professionalization contract

Students admitted for initial training can complete their5th year under a professionalization contract.

Continuing education

The Biological and Agri-food Engineering course is also available as a continuing education course leading to a diploma, under certain conditions, to employees with at least three years' professional experience in the field.
