Presentation
The Inter Disciplinary - In Lab' project is the graduate program of the University of Montpellier. Funded by the Programme d'Investissement d'Avenir 3, it responds to the call for proposals "Structuring Training through Research in Excellence Initiatives" (SFRI).
The "Master in Chemistry for healthcare, protection and nutrition applications" course focuses on the essentials of what guarantees the very existence of humanity, and goes far beyond by organizing the crucial aspects of a healthy, sustainable life in harmony with its environment. Chemistry is at the heart of the vital concepts of signing, protecting and feeding human beings. This course proposes to answer this question with a multidisciplinary training around chemistry, enriched with biology and pharmaceutical sciences on one side and chemical engineering and material sciences on the other.
Examples of teaching units:
- Prodrugs and bioprecursors
- Nanotechnologies and multifunctional targering
- Chemobiology
Objectives
The objective of the project is to transform the University's pedagogy by offering students training through research for research, by immersing students in laboratories as early as Master 1.
This MUSE-wide program aims to:
- To propose an "inLab" training "in the laboratory" from the Master 1;
- Promote interdisciplinarity, particularly around the issues of MUSE
- To promote the international opening (international attractiveness, teaching in English) of the UM.
- Strengthen the Master/Doctorate link;
Know-how and skills
Having forged your ability to understand and analyze the diverse and complex issues of human health and its environment, capable of acting individually and as part of a team, and having acquired real international experience, you will be key players in participating in public or private research programs.
Program
The IDIL (Intrdisciplinary In Lab') graduate program at the University of Montpellier opened its doors in September 2022, and aims to train students through and for research via pedagogical innovation. The IDIL pathways available are diversified and cover many disciplines, from bio-health to political science.
Taught entirely in English, IDIL courses offer students a unique structure through four main aspects:
- Learning by doing. The IDIL programs place a strong emphasis on learning by doing by including in-lab units (courses held in a laboratory) as well as a subsidized research internship in M1 and M2. The IDIL program opens the doors to a hundred or so laboratories at the University of Montpellier, in which students will work in immersion.
- Customization of the curriculum. IDIL students have the possibility to compose their course according to their professional project and interests by selecting their courses through three different teaching units: Non Core, In-lab and Transversal. Support will be offered to ensure that the student's curriculum corresponds to his or her choice of orientation.
- Introduction to a new discipline. All IDIL students must choose a Non-Core course, which is an introductory course to a discipline in another IDIL track. For example, a Comparative Politics and Public Policy student may take an introductory course from the Applied Ecological and Evolutionary Sciences track. This arrangement allows students to have a unique profile, and is an effective way to develop interdisciplinary thinking, a major issue in modern research.
- Coaching by a mentor. Throughout the IDIL program, the student will be coached by a researcher from the Montpellier laboratories. The mentor will prepare the student for the internship, teach the theory through various workshops, and develop the student's professional network.
