Presentation
The Inter Disciplinary - In Lab' project is the graduate program of the University of Montpellier. Funded by the Investment for the Future Program 3, it responds to the call for projects "Structuring Training through Research in Excellence Initiatives" (SFRI).
The Master's in Chemistry for Healthcare, Protection, and Nutrition Applications program focuses on the essentials that guarantee the very existence of humanity, and goes even further by organizing the crucial aspects of a healthy, sustainable life in harmony with the environment. Chemistry is at the heart of the vital concepts of sustaining, protecting, and nourishing human beings. This program offers you the opportunity to respond to these challenges with a multidisciplinary education in chemistry, enriched by biology and pharmaceutical sciences on the one hand, and chemical engineering and materials science on the other.
Examples of teaching units:
- Prodrugs and bioprecursors
- Nanotechnologies and multifunctional targeting
- Chemobiology
The advantages of the training program
- Paid internships in M1 and M2
- Courses in English and an international environment
- Customizable courses
- Support from a mentor and tutor
Objectives
The aim of the project is to transform the university's teaching methods by offering students training through research for research, immersing them in laboratories from the first year of their master's degree onwards.
This program, at the MUSE level, aims to:
- Offer an "inLab" training course "in the laboratory" starting in the first year of the Master's program;
- Promoting interdisciplinarity, particularly around MUSE issues
- Promote the international openness (international appeal, English-language courses) of the University of Montreal.
- Strengthen the link between Master's and Doctorate programs;
Know-how and skills
Having developed your ability to understand and analyze the diverse and complex issues surrounding human health and the environment, capable of working both independently and as part of a team, and having gained real international experience, you will be key players in public and private research programs.
Program
The IDIL (Intradisciplinary In Lab') graduate program at the University of Montpellier opened its doors in September 2022, with the aim of training students through and for research via educational innovation. The IDIL courses available are diverse and cover many disciplines, from bio-health to political science.
Taught entirely in English, IDIL programs offer students the opportunity to take their courses through a unique structure based on four main aspects:
- Learning by doing. IDIL programs place a strong emphasis on learning by doing, including in-lab units (courses held in a laboratory) and a subsidized research internship in M1 and M2. The IDIL program opens the doors to around 100 laboratories at the University of Montpellier, where students will be immersed in their work.
- Customization of the curriculum. IDIL students have the opportunity to tailor their course of study to their career plans and interests by selecting their courses from three different teaching units: Non-Core, In-Lab, and Cross-Disciplinary. Support will be offered to ensure that the student's curriculum matches their chosen career path.
- Introduction to a new discipline. All IDIL students must choose a Non-Core teaching unit, which is an introductory course to a discipline from another IDIL program. For example, a student in Comparative Politics and Public Policy can take an introductory course in Applied Ecological and Evolutionary Sciences. This system allows students to develop a unique profile and is an effective way to develop interdisciplinary thinking, a major challenge in modern research.
- Support from a mentor. Throughout their IDIL program, students will be coached by a researcher from Montpellier's laboratories. The mentor will help prepare students for their internship, teach theory through various workshops, and help students develop their professional network.
