Presentation
The Biochemistry course of the Life Sciences Licence is a training at the interface of Biology and Chemistry. The different courses of the three years of the Licence are designed for professional preparation but above all for further studies in Master or engineering school.
At the University of Montpellier, the Biochemistry course allows students to pursue their studies mainly in a Master's degree in Biology-Health or Drug Sciences. This demanding training is both generalist by integrating many disciplines of Biology (biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, genetics, microbiology, ...) but also more specific (structural biology, enzymology, chemistry of biomolecules or mathematics for biology).
Objectives
The main objectives are (i) to provide solid knowledge for further study in all the disciplines covered, (ii) to lead the student, at the end of the three years, towards autonomy and (iii) to awaken and train a critical and scientific mind. To achieve these objectives, the teaching alternates between theoretical and fundamental notions and practical teaching. Finally, at the end of this training, the scientific level attained allows students to enter a Master's degree, an engineering school or any other training requiring a Bac+3 level.
Know-how and skills
The program offers general theoretical courses in Biochemistry, Biology and Chemistry and the corresponding practical courses.
The training is adapted to the needs of academic and industrial research laboratories.
The skills to be acquired during this training are based on
- fundamental knowledge in biochemistry (metabolic, cellular and structural),
in enzymology, molecular biology, genetics, systems biology...
- practical know-how in biochemistry and microbiology
- the ability to analyze and synthesize scientific data
All of the skills acquired at the Biology-Chemistry interface enable the student to adapt
to broader and interdisciplinary scientific contexts.
