Objectives

The objective of the Biotechnology Teaching Professions (Bio-ME) program is to provide students with a base of knowledge in all the fundamental disciplines included in the CAPET Biotechnology option Biochemistry and Biological Engineering competitive examination.

Thus, the course allows to acquire:

- fundamental scientific knowledge in biotechnology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, physiology, immunology, cellular and molecular biology;

- know-how in biological analysis technologies in the context of practical work.

After obtaining their Bachelor's degree, students can integrate the Master MEEF2nd degree Biotechnology option Biochemistry - Biological Engineering in order to prepare the CAPET Biotechnology exam to become a certified teacher of Biotechnology - Biochemistry - Biological Engineering in high school.

Know-how and skills

The competences that students who will follow the Life Sciences license Bio-ME pathway must acquire are the following:

- understand key concepts that govern biological mechanisms at the molecular, cellular and organismal levels, by mobilizing knowledge of the structure and properties of the main molecules of life;

- know how to mobilize concepts and tools from different disciplines to analyze a document, an observation or the result of an experiment

- know how to search for and extract information in order to produce a synthesis.

- to appropriate the analytical approach and to build a rigorous scientific reasoning;

- know how to formulate a hypothesis by mobilizing the concepts of biology ;

- be able to design an experiment and adapt an operating procedure;

- rigorously implement an experimental procedure and develop a critical view of experimental results in order to answer and test the validity of a hypothesis;

- be able to develop critical thinking skills, particularly with regard to cultural and societal dimensions;

- develop a sense of responsibility through the implementation of experimental activities in biotechnology;

- know how to construct a rigorous reasoning to justify a choice or an assertion ;

- be able to invest in a project and take initiatives;

- interact with peers through oral or written communication.

- develop oral presentations and written scientific reports using appropriate computer tools.

Professional integration

The results obtained by our students have positioned the Academy of Montpellier in a very good position in terms of success in the national competitive examination for the CAPET Biotechnologies option Biochemistry Engineering (BGB). The students who have passed the exam and validated their M2 automatically hold a position as a certified teacher of Biochemistry and Biological Engineering in high school under the status of civil servant of the French National Education. The students who have validated their M2 but have not won the competitive examination are employed as contractual or substitute teachers in high schools.
