Description
Major points covered: the concept of sea level, the sedimentary record of sea level variations, the notion of depositional sequences, the origin of sequences, the recognition of sequences and the fields of application (basin/reservoir architecture, reservoir prediction).
Objectives
- Identification of sedimentary processes and depositional sequences at different scales (seismic and genetic sequences, parasequences) from seismic, outcrop and well data (including logs).
- Identification of different sedimentary discontinuities (maximum flooding surface, unconformity, transgression surf, maximum regression surface, etc. (from rocks, seismic, logs).
- Acquisition of log correlation techniques in genetic stratigraphy (stacking pattern).
Necessary pre-requisites
Knowledge of facies sedimentology (identification of sedimentary processes and depositional environments).
Basic knowledge of the meaning of a seismic reflection profile.
Knowledge control
Continuous assessment.
