Description
Case study of the Montpellier straddle front, SW zone of St Paul-et-Valmalle: Mas d'Arnaud – Mas de Fabre – Le Castellas.
Structural geology, classical and digital terrain mapping, facies sedimentology, GIS, detailed geological map.
Objectives
- Consolidation of geological mapping knowledge in the field
- Training in the use of a digital tablet in the field to position and acquire geological measurements (dip & gps points ->fieldmove clino, IGN map, sat photo)
- Training in digital geological mapping = digitization + data integration (field/airborne-satellite imagery) on GIS to produce a detailed digital geological map + associated database.
Necessary prerequisites
Tectonics course (L3 level), sedimentary dynamics course (M1 level), geological mapping (L3 level).
Knowledge control
Full continuous assessment.
Syllabus
- 3 days of supervised fieldwork (presentation of study area and characteristic facies)
- 2 x 3h GIS training sessions (Qgis): one before the supervised fieldwork, the other before the last outing.
- additional fieldwork on students' own and work in the info room
- digital field tools: 1 ipad mini per pair.
