Description

Analysis of the formation of sedimentary basins by the interaction of internal forcings (lithospheric processes) and external forcings (processes in the Earth's outer envelopes).
Analysis of the post-deposition evolution that leads to the formation of natural resources (energy and mineral).

Objectives

- Understand the processes of basin formation in different geodynamic contexts.
- Analyze the subsidence of different types of sedimentary basins.
- Position the development of reservoirs (containing natural resources) in the formation of sedimentary basins.
- Establish the genetic links between the formation of mineral and energy resources and the processes of formation and development of sedimentary basins.
- Apply theoretical concepts to simplified case studies, in class and in the field
- Make future exploration geologists aware of environmental, economic and societal issues.
