Description
Analysis of the formation of sedimentary basins through the interaction of internal forces (lithospheric processes) and external forces (processes in the Earth's outer layers).
Analysis of post-depositional evolution leading to the formation of natural resources (energy and minerals).
Objectives
- Understand the processes involved in basin formation in different geodynamic contexts.
- Be able to analyze the subsidence of different types of sedimentary basins.
- Position the development of reservoirs (containing natural resources) in the formation of sedimentary basins.
- Establish the genetic links between the formation of mineral and energy resources and the processes of formation and development of sedimentary basins.
- Put theoretical concepts into practice in simplified case studies, in the classroom and in the field
- Raise awareness among future exploration geologists of environmental, economic, and societal issues.
Mandatory prerequisites
Bachelor's degree in Earth Sciences:
Fundamentals of tectonics, sedimentology, petrology, geophysics.
Fundamentals of Earth structure (solid layers, fluid layers)
Knowledge assessment
Continuous assessment (tests, reports, summary exercises).
Syllabus
Digital course materials + numerous exercises in paper format.
