Description
Analysis of the formation of sedimentary basins by the interaction of internal forcings (lithospheric processes) and external forcings (processes in the Earth's outer envelope).
Analysis of the post-depositional evolution that leads to the formation of natural resources (energy and minerals).
Objectives
- Understand the processes of basin formation according to the different geodynamic contexts.
- Know how to analyze the subsidence of the different types of sedimentary basins.
- Position the development of reservoirs (containing natural resources) in the formation of sedimentary basins.
- Establish the genetic links between the formation of mineral and energy resources and the processes of formation and development of sedimentary basins
- To put into practice the theoretical concepts in simplified case studies, in class and in the field
- To make future exploration geologists aware of environmental, economic and societal issues.
Necessary pre-requisites
Bachelor's degree in Earth Sciences:
Basics of tectonics, sedimentology, petrology, geophysics.
Basics of the structure of the Earth (solid and fluid envelopes)
Knowledge control
