Description
The course is structured around case studies focusing on the Gironde and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions. It develops, in turn, ways of appropriating water included in land use planning for drinking water, sanitation, flooding, and aquatic environments, including wetlands. It also addresses the positioning of water and urban planning stakeholders, while introducing students to professions related to these two themes. The course involves numerous exchanges and interactions between the teacher and students, with a view to stimulating their critical thinking in relation to practical, real-life professional cases.

Mandatory prerequisites
Knowledge currently being acquired in the field of water by students from the social sciences.
Knowledge assessment
A three-hour assessment, which includes a reflective section based on a video and a section summarizing the course with reasoned answers, all of which are subject to a detailed and personalized correction.

Targeted skills
Knowing how to convey knowledge (case study: Gironde) concerning: water legislation, irrigation engineering, evaluation and performance of water management systems, economic evaluation of public policies, management tools for economic regulation, financial management of development projects, water governance systems, environmental impact assessment methods, groundwater management
Expertise:
Providing concrete examples and conveying the perspective of a local engineer through case studies to carry out, on the theme of water: a territorial analysis and forecast; territorial design actions (production with mastery of procedures, coordination, particularly budgetary, and management (relations with elected officials) of territorial and urban projects); facilitation of territorial and urban projects (human resources management).
Learn how to develop projects while taking into account the heritage value of water and understand the roles of a territorial engineer, who may be employed in the following positions: research/project manager/project leader/advisor/environmental engineer, watershed coordinator, SAGE coordinator, regional or national park coordinator.
