Description
This course consists of an in-depth study of a selected problem or topic related to materials chemistry for the three targeted areas of the program: sustainable development, health, and membrane engineering. This may take the form of research, development, or analysis at the laboratory or company level. Students will work in small groups on projects. They will choose their topic and define the goal, objectives, and means under the guidance of a tutor. The ultimate goal is to develop a product/methodology using the synthesis and analysis knowledge already acquired in preparation for the internships that will take place in S8.
Hourly volumes:
CM: 6 hours
Tutorial: 6 hours
Practical work: 4 hours
Objectives
The objective of this course is to develop a product or methodology applied to one of the three specific areas of the program, drawing on the students' knowledge of materials chemistry. Students will work in project groups. They will develop their own synthesis strategy, propose and carry out characterizations and studies of the properties of these materials. During the completion of these projects, in addition to acquiring new scientific knowledge and deepening their M1 knowledge, students will acquire the skills and abilities to work in groups and independently, plan experiments, etc.
Although the objectives, scope, and design of the projects vary for each group, they must be designed in such a way as to demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge at the M1 level. Assessment will be based on a report that must demonstrate that the student is capable of:
- Identify and define an important problem related to materials chemistry.
- Systematically collect relevant, up-to-date information on the issue, either directly or from published studies or publicly available data.
- Analyze, interpret, and discuss information in accordance with standard academic research practice.
- Draw conclusions and make relevant recommendations on the issue that will contribute to current knowledge and practices in materials chemistry.
- Write and present a report and communicate its findings orally.
