Description

This course consists of an in-depth study of a problem or a chosen subject related to the chemistry of materials for the three targeted orientations of the course: sustainable development, health and membrane engineering. This can take the form of a study in research, development or analysis at the laboratory level or in a company. Students will work in small groups - projects. They will choose their subject, define the goal, the objectives and the means under the guidance of a tutor. The final goal is to develop a product/methodology using the knowledge of synthesis and analysis already acquired to prepare for the internships that will take place in S8.

Objectives

The objective of this course is to develop a product or a methodology applied to one of the three specific orientations of the course by taking advantage of the students' knowledge in materials chemistry. The students will work in project-groups. They will elaborate the synthesis strategy themselves, propose and carry out the characterizations and studies of the properties of these materials. During the realization of these projects, in addition to new scientific knowledge and deepening of the knowledge acquired in M1, students will acquire the skills and abilities to work in groups and independently, plan experiments, etc.

While the objectives, scope, and design of the projects will vary for each group, they should be designed to demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge at the M1 level. Evaluation will be based on a report that must demonstrate that the student is able to:

  • Identify and define an important problem related to materials chemistry
  • Systematically collect relevant, up-to-date information on the problem, either directly or from published studies or publicly available data.
  • Analyze, interpret and discuss information in accordance with standard academic research practice
  • Draw conclusions and make recommendations relevant to the issue that will contribute to current knowledge and practice in materials chemistry
  • Write and present a report and communicate results orally.
