Description
This course will cover techniques for extracting biomolecules (protein precipitation, SPE) and techniques for separating biomolecules (chromatography, electrophoresis).
Hourly volumes:
CM: 9 a.m.
Field: 11 a.m.
Objectives
Acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of techniques for extracting and separating biomolecules. Know how to choose an extraction and separation technique based on the matrix and nature of the compounds to be studied and/or purified.
Teaching hours
- Extraction and separation of biomolecules - CMLecture9 a.m.
Knowledge assessment
Continuous assessment (practical work, 40%) and final assessment (lectures, 60%)
2 sessions for the final exam
Syllabus
Regarding lectures: 7.5 hours will be devoted to methods of extraction and separation of biomolecules and 1.5 hours to teaching capillary electrophoresis.
Several practical sessions will illustrate these concepts: -
- HPTLC applied to biomolecules
- Capillary electrophoresis (chiral separation of amino acids),
- SPE-HPLC biomolecules
