Description
The aim of this course is to describe synthesis tools applied to complex, polyfunctional molecules. Retrosynthetic and stereocontrolled approaches will be covered, as well as the rational use of protecting groups.
Hourly volumes* :
CM: 9 H
Field : 11 H
Objectives
Be able to propose several solutions for synthesizing target molecules and justify the choices made.
Necessary prerequisites
Advanced organic chemistry; reaction mechanisms
Knowledge control
Final written exam, 2 hours:
- Authorized documents: no
- Non-graphic calculator allowed: yes
- Internet allowed: no
Syllabus
Course: Retrosynthesis; multi-step syntheses; stereocontrolled syntheses; protective groups; literature analysis.
Practical work: The multi-step syntheses studied in practical work will be based on a theoretical understanding of the reactions involved, as well as on the appropriate treatments to be carried out. Time management, experimental planning, organization of experimental synthesis techniques (extraction, distillation, recrystallization, chromatography) and methods for characterizing the organic compounds obtained will be required to successfully complete these syntheses. The skills acquired by students during these practical exercises are :
- Implement an experimental protocol in French or English, in compliance with good laboratory practice.
- Work independently and with others.
- Analyze and interpret the results obtained.
- Write a report describing the operating procedures carried out, the characterization of the products obtained and their analysis.
- Present the work done.
