Description
This course extends the concepts covered in Newtonian Dynamics 1 to gravitational interaction and more generally to the motion of a material point subjected to a central force. The statics and dynamics of the rigid body are also treated.
Objectives
To provide a solid foundation for the study of the dynamics of the material point using different reference frames for its description. To understand the dynamics of systems as well as two-body collisions.
Necessary pre-requisites
Point dynamics
Knowledge control
CT 100%.
Syllabus
1) Gravitational Interaction :
Force, field, potential energy.
2) Motion of a material point subjected to a central force:
Properties of central force movements.
Kepler's problem.
Kepler's laws.
Impact parameter.
Two body problem.
3) Static of the rigid body
Condition of equilibrium, balance of force moments.
4) Dynamics of the rigid body
Definition of angular momentum, conservation of angular momentum.
Kinematics of translation and rotation.
Moment of inertia: expression of angular momentum and kinetic energy, example of moment of inertia.
Rotational dynamics of a rigid body.
