Description
This UE extends the concepts covered in Newtonian Dynamics 1 to gravitational interaction and, more generally, to the motion of a material point subjected to a central force. The statics and dynamics of rigid bodies are also covered.
Objectives
Provide a solid foundation for the study of material point dynamics, using different reference frames to describe them. Understand system dynamics and two-body collisions.
Necessary prerequisites
Point dynamics
Knowledge control
100% CT
Syllabus
1) Gravitational interaction :
Force, field, potential energy.
2) Motion of a material point subjected to a central force:
Properties of central force movements.
Kepler's problem.
Kepler's laws.
Impact parameter.
Two-body problem.
3) Rigid body statics
Condition of equilibrium, balance of force moments.
4) Rigid body dynamics
Definition of angular momentum, conservation of angular momentum.
Kinematics of translational and rotational motion.
Moment of inertia: expression of angular momentum and kinetic energy, example of moment of inertia.
Rotational dynamics of a rigid body.
