Presentation

The third year of the Bachelor's degree in Mathematics - Mathematics for Teaching - completes the acquisition of knowledge that allows the validation of a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics while preparing for entry into a Master's degree in Mathematics for the second degree.

The first semester is common to the whole general mathematics license, and is in the continuity of the L1 and L2 years with a stronger emphasis on abstraction and reasoning, the aim being to set up the theoretical tools necessary for a deepening and a stepping back on central concepts of mathematics, as well as an opening towards different fields (statistics, applied mathematics, fundamental mathematics).

The choice of the teaching pathway is only differentiated in S6, allowing all types of master's degrees in mathematics to be considered until the end of S5.

S6 offers both:

- in-depth mathematics in fundamental fields for secondary education, such as geometry,

- a revisiting of the mathematical contents of L, in line with the CAPES program, in order to promote their articulation, and a step back from the mathematics taught in secondary school,

- an introduction to teaching and didactic reflection in mathematics, combined with an internship in a secondary school.

- an in-depth study in an area of applied mathematics, chosen from numerical analysis and probability-statistics.

Objectives

- Acquire a solid knowledge of mathematics and the ability to abstract and reason

- Use and reinforce writing and expression skills acquired in L1 and L2, in a teaching perspective

- Prepare to become a teacher, and initiate a reflection on mathematics and its teaching

Know-how and skills

The skills acquired during the 3 years of the mathematics degree allow students to acquire in-depth knowledge in mathematics in order to move on to different masters in mathematics, whatever their speciality (statistics, applied mathematics, fundamental mathematics, mathematics education).

In the third year of the bachelor's degree, the mathematics education pathway leads to the MEEF second-degree mathematics master's degree, by initiating, in addition to mathematical skills, the development of a teaching posture.
