Presentation

The third year of the bachelor's degree in mathematics - Mathematics for Teaching pathway - completes the acquisition of the knowledge required for validation of a bachelor's degree in mathematics, while preparing students for entry into an MEEF master's degree in second-degree mathematics.

The first semester is common to the entire general mathematics license, and follows on from the L1 and L2 years, with a stronger emphasis on abstraction and reasoning. The aim is to establish the theoretical tools needed to deepen and step back from the central concepts of mathematics, as well as opening up to different fields (statistics, applied mathematics, fundamental mathematics).

The choice of teaching pathway is only differentiated in S6, enabling students up to the end of S5 to consider any type of Master's degree in mathematics.

The S6 offers both :

- in-depth mathematical studies in fundamental fields for secondary education, such as geometry,

- revisit L-level mathematical content, in line with the CAPES syllabus, so as to promote its articulation, and take a step back from the mathematics taught in secondary schools,

- an introduction to teaching and didactic thinking in mathematics, combined with an internship in a secondary school.

- an in-depth study of an applied mathematical field, chosen from numerical analysis and probability-statistics.

Objectives

- Acquire a solid knowledge of mathematics and the ability to think in abstract and reasoning terms

- Use and reinforce the writing and expression skills acquired in L1 and L2 for teaching purposes

- Prepare to become a teacher, and initiate reflection on mathematics and its teaching

Know-how and skills

The skills acquired during the 3 years of the mathematics bachelor's degree enable students to acquire in-depth knowledge of mathematics, enabling them to move on to various mathematics master's degrees, whatever their specialization (statistics, applied mathematics, fundamental mathematics, mathematics education).

In the third year of the bachelor's degree, the mathematics-teaching path leads to the MEEF second-degree mathematics master's degree, with the development of a teaching posture in addition to mathematical skills.
