Description

In the lectures of this course, we describe each stage of the life cycle, starting with embryonic development (including organ development, cell differentiation and growth processes), through the acquisition of reproductive capacity (including the stages associated with meiosis and gametogenesis), and ending with fertilization. This life cycle is covered in detail in metazoans and angiosperms, and will consolidate your knowledge of the transmission of genetic information. This will enable us to solve problems in Mendelian genetics, including sex and epistasis effects, during the tutorials in this course.

Objectives

By following this course, you should be able to describe the different stages in the life cycle of an organism (vertebrate or angiosperm), define the stages of alternation between haploid and diploid phases, characterize the stages of cell differentiation, and solve Mendelian genetic problems including effects linked to sex or epistasis.

Necessary prerequisites

Among the L1S1 UEs, you must have validated :

HAV101V From molecule to cell: a good knowledge of cell constituents and their function is expected

HAV107B From cells to organisms: we expect a good understanding of the functions performed by all multi-cellular biological organisms, and a knowledge of the diversity of these organisms.

HAV108B From organisms to ecosystems: a minimum knowledge of the relationship between an organism and its environment is expected

Recommended prerequisites* :

In addition to the knowledge acquired in L1S1, it is recommended to have solved Mendelian genetics problems at high school level, and to be familiar with the processes of mitosis and meiosis, and the differences between these two processes.
