Description
Mineral deposits, exploration techniques, geostatistics, mining economics. The training focuses mainly on presentations by professionals (mining and quarrying). Two days of fieldwork illustrate certain exploration methods, notably through the study of uranium and gypsum mineralization.
Objectives
Raise awareness of careers in exploration and mining. Understand the issues related to metal extraction (U, Ni, Mn, rare earths, etc.). Non-concessionable resources: from exploration to production (visit to an active quarry).
Acquire skills in 1) exploration strategies and techniques, 2) the conditions and methods for operating a quarry, and 3) the economic and societal issues related to resource exploitation.
Mandatory prerequisites
HAT808T - Mineral lodgings.
