Description
Mineral deposits, exploration techniques, geostatistics, mining economics. The course focuses primarily on presentations by industry professionals (mining and quarrying). Two days of fieldwork are dedicated to illustrating certain exploration methods, particularly through the study of uranium and gypsum mineralization.
Objectives
Raise awareness about careers in exploration and mining. Understand the challenges associated with metal extraction (U, Ni, Mn, rare earth elements, etc.). Non-concessionable resources: from exploration to production (visit to an active quarry).
Acquire skills related to 1) exploration strategies and techniques; 2) the conditions and methods for operating a quarry; and 3) the economic and societal issues associated with resource extraction.
Mandatory Prerequisites
HAT808T - Mineral deposits.
Knowledge Assessment
Comprehensive ongoing monitoring.
