Description

The course is organized in 3 main chapters with alternating tutorials applied to engineering problems. In the first part, after describing the large water reservoirs on a global scale and the basic principles of the water cycle, the effects of human activities on this cycle are discussed. The second part is dedicated to the aerial part of this cycle from precipitation to infiltration. The third part focuses on aquifers and groundwater from the pore scale to the catchment scale.

Objectives

  • Acquire the technical vocabulary of hydrologists and hydrogeologists;
  • Be aware of the major issues related to water (flooding, climate change, access to water resources, effects of human activities);
  • Acquire the technical vocabulary of hydrologists and hydrogeologists;
  • Be aware of the major issues related to water (flooding, climate change, access to water resources, effects of human activities);
  • Acquire a base of knowledge in hydrology and hydrogeology;
  • Know the main processes of the water cycle;
  • Be able to solve simple applied engineering problems (hydrological balance, rainfall intensity, volume of underground reserves, groundwater flow...);
  • To ensure a solid common base for all students of the Master of Water Sciences;
  • Acquire a base of knowledge in hydrology and hydrogeology;
  • Know the main processes of the water cycle;
