Description

Knowing how to acquire and process data is an essential skill in a professional scientific and/or technical context. The aim of this course is to address three types of know-how that are standard in the professional environment:

- Advanced use of spreadsheets (MS EXCEL, LO-CALC) for scientific and technical applications

- Network interconnections: infrastructures, TCP-IP protocol suite, security

- Introduction to relational databases (MS ACCESS, LO-BASE) - concepts & vocabulary, query creation, graphical reports, forms.

Objectives

At the end of this course, students will be able to :

- Efficiently process data using one of the most widely used tools in the professional world: the spreadsheet/chart program. The most advanced features of MS-EXCEL and LO-CALC (matrix formulas, solver, dynamic tables and pivot graphs, support for complex numbers, etc.) are presented through concrete examples: Curve fitting, regression, numerical derivatives and integrations, fast Fourier transform filtering, analysis of information extracted from databases, extension of native functionalities using VBA or LO-BASIC...

- Insert and configure equipment (computers and other instruments in a data acquisition and processing chain) in an intranet-type network infrastructure.

- Extract, analyze and format information from a relational database.

o Creation of different types of queries and presentation of SQL language

o Create forms, reports, charts and pivot tables

Syllabus

Numerous data processing solutions of varying degrees of specialization exist, but some are considered to be standard and should be mastered if you hope to enter the job market quickly and efficiently. Such is the case with spreadsheet and graphing tools.

On the other hand, a good understanding of network infrastructure is proving increasingly useful in the instrumentation field. For example, when developing or maintaining an experimental setup, it is now common to set up a functional acquisition chain involving scientific and technical instruments with ethernet-type interfaces.

Finally, in an industrial context where the volume of data collected is very high, it is often centralized in database-type systems. It is therefore important to be able to access this information efficiently in order to carry out analysis work.
