Overview
Objectives
To train students to become elementary school teachers and prepare them for the oral and written exams of the competitive examination for elementary school teacher recruitment (CRPE).
Expertise and Skills
All elementary school subjects are covered, including their interdisciplinary aspects. The master’s program also offers a solid foundation in general pedagogy and enables students to gain a deeper understanding of the organization of the education system and its values.
The master’s program includes research-based training in the fields of didactics and the sciences of training and education, in collaboration with research laboratories. This training culminates in the completion of a master’s thesis during the second year (M2).
Program
From the perspective of the teaching units (UE), each of the four semesters of the master’s program is structured according to the same framework:
A “reference framework” teaching unit;
A “disciplinary and pedagogical knowledge and skills in French” teaching unit;
A “disciplinary and pedagogical knowledge and skills in mathematics” teaching unit;
A course unit on “subject-specific and pedagogical knowledge and skills in other disciplines” (history-geography, science, arts, and physical education);
A course unit on “modern languages”;
A course unit on “Internship Support” (general pedagogy and analysis of teaching practices across all disciplines);
A research course unit.
In addition to these course units, a “Pedagogy and Innovation” course unit is offered in both Semester 1 and Semester 2.

Admission
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to a master’s program, students must hold a national bachelor’s degree or have their prior learning validated in accordance with Articles L613-3, L613-4, and L613-5 of the Education Code.
Admission to the first year of the master’s program (M1) is based on a review of the applicant’s application materials.
Factors taken into account include grades earned during the bachelor’s degree program, as well as criteria based on how closely the applicant’s prior academic background aligns with the CRPE exams and the teaching profession itself: type of bachelor’s degree earned, pre-professional coursework, etc.
To be admitted to the M2 program, applicants must have successfully completed the M1 program or, in exceptional cases, be eligible for recognition of prior learning.

The career goal of nearly all students who enroll in the elementary education track is to become elementary school teachers and, therefore, to obtain the CRPE certification to teach in public or private schools.
