Description

This course consists of an in-depth study of a chosen problem or topic related to materials chemistry for the three targeted orientations of the pathway: sustainable development, health and membrane engineering. This may take the form of a research, development or analysis study at laboratory or company level. Students work in small project groups. They will choose their subject, define the aim, objectives and means under the guidance of a tutor. The final aim is to develop a product/methodology using the knowledge of synthesis and analysis already acquired, in preparation for the internships that will take place in S8.

Objectives

The aim of this UE is to develop a product or methodology applied to one of the three specific orientations of the course, making the most of students' knowledge of materials chemistry. Students will work in project groups. They will work out the synthesis strategy themselves, propose and carry out characterizations and studies of the properties of these materials. During the course of these projects, in addition to acquiring new scientific knowledge and deepening the knowledge acquired in M1, students will acquire the skills and abilities to work in groups and independently, plan experiments, etc.

Although the objectives, scope and design of projects vary for each group, they should be designed to demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge at M1 level. Assessment will be based on a report which must demonstrate that the student is able to:

  • Identify and define an important problem in materials chemistry
  • Systematically collect relevant, up-to-date information on the problem, either directly or from published studies or publicly available data.
  • Analyze, interpret and discuss information in accordance with standard academic research practice
  • Draw conclusions and make recommendations relevant to the issue that will contribute to current knowledge and practice in materials chemistry
  • Write and present a report and communicate results orally.
