Overview
The first year of the bachelor’s degree program is the same for all these specializations. Starting in the second year of the bachelor’s degree program, students enroll in one of the four specializations. However, the programs continue to share a common core curriculum covering scientific courses, methodological courses (languages, computer science), and specialized sports courses. All of these programs are available through continuing education.

Bachelor's Degree in Sports Science (STAPS) with a concentration in Sports Management (MS)
The goal of the Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management is to train professionals in the management and organization of physical and sports activities for all types of participants (children, adolescents, adults, seniors, and even people with disabilities) and across various sectors related to sports, three of which are of particular focus: sports associations (sports federations, leagues, and clubs); and public and private organizations involved in sports management and event planning.
Due to limited enrollment capacity for this program, registration requests from high school graduates of the Montpellier Academy and from high school students preparing for the French baccalaureate abroad will be given priority.

Bachelor's Degree in Sports Science (STAPS) with a concentration in Adapted Physical Activity and Health (APAS)
The goal of the Adapted Physical Activity and Health program is to train Adapted Physical Activity Instructors (APAI). The role of an Adapted Physical Activity Specialist is to help design, implement, and evaluate intervention, prevention, and education programs that promote health through adapted physical activity for individuals in the categories mentioned above.

Bachelor's Degree in Sports Science (STAPS) with a concentration in Sports Training (ES)
The goal of the bachelor’s degree program is to train professionals in coaching, program facilitation, physical and psychological preparation, as well as sports administrators for the federal government, sports organizations, and local governments. Students learn to work with all types of participants (children, adolescents, adults, and seniors) and at all skill levels (beginners, recreational athletes, advanced athletes, and elite athletes). The program includes a combination of scientific and theoretical courses alongside applied and practical courses. A specialized sports track is emphasized to help students acquire recognized skills as sports trainers and coaches. Finally, special emphasis is placed on the theoretical and practical aspects of physical conditioning.

Bachelor's Degree in Sports Science (STAPS) with a concentration in Education and Motor Skills (EM)
The EM program trains professionals in teaching, sports instruction, and, more broadly, educational intervention in the fields of physical, sports, and artistic activities. More specifically, it prepares students to design and supervise training activities in the areas of physical education and sports (EPS), sports, and education for health and citizenship.
Students in the EM track are thus prepared to work with diverse audiences as physical education teachers, sports managers or instructors, and project leaders. These roles are found not only in the primary setting of schools but also within various educational and sports institutions run by the government, local authorities, and the private sector (sports federations, associations, health education organizations, and companies).
The Advanced Study track is one of the STAPS master's programs offered at UM1.

Admission Requirements
1st year: High school diploma or equivalent
2nd year: 1st year of the STAPS bachelor’s degree program or equivalent
3rd year: 2nd year of the STAPS bachelor’s degree program in Sports Management or equivalent
Mandatory Prerequisites
For several years now, we have noticed a significant increase in the number of applicants wishing to enroll in the STAPS Department. We never tire of repeating that the most important thing is not to get into the UFR STAPS, but to graduate with a degree. Too many students fail to complete their studies because they have not understood the true nature of the programs offered at our UFR, which is often mistakenly viewed as a sports training center.
Enrolling in the STAPS program only makes sense if you have a solid career plan, as well as the skills and motivation needed to pursue university studies through the completion of your bachelor’s degree. The STAPS program is undoubtedly exciting and diverse, but it is certainly not easy. We do everything we can to help students who are struggling and to diversify our teaching methods and academic programs. Over the past four years, we have thus been able to increase our graduation rates by more than 15 percentage points.
