STAPS degree in Sport Management (MS)

The aim of the Sport Management degree is to train professionals in the management and organization of physical and sporting activities for all types of public (children, teenagers, adults, the elderly, even the disabled) and in the various sectors of activity linked to sport, three of which are particularly targeted: associative sports organizations (sports federations, leagues, clubs), public and private sports management bodies and event management.

Due to the limited capacity of this program, applications from baccalaureate holders from the Académie de Montpellier, and from high school students preparing a French baccalaureate abroad, will be given priority.

Whatever the candidate's profile, applications must be made on ParcourSup.

STAPS degree in sports training (ES)

The aim of the bachelor's degree is to train professionals in coaching, animation, physical and psychological preparation, as well as sports managers in the federal and associative sports sectors, and within local authorities. Students are expected to work with all types of public (children, teenagers, adults and the elderly) and at all levels (beginners, leisure, experienced and top-level athletes). The training includes a combination of scientific and theoretical courses and applied and practical courses. A dominant sports option is emphasized, enabling the acquisition of recognized skills as a trainer and sports coach. Last but not least, particular emphasis is placed on the theoretical and practical aspects of physical preparation.

Due to the limited capacity of this program, applications from baccalaureate holders from the Académie de Montpellier, and from high school students preparing a French baccalaureate abroad, will be given priority.

Whatever the candidate's profile, applications must be made on ParcourSup.

STAPS degree in Education and Motricity (EM)

The EM specialization trains professionals in teaching, sports leadership and, more broadly, educational intervention in the field of physical, sports and artistic activities. More specifically, it prepares students to design and supervise training activities in the fields of physical and sports education (PSE), sport and education for (for) health and (for) citizenship.

Students in the EM specialization are thus destined to work with a wide range of publics as PE teachers, sports managers or instructors, or project managers. This work takes place not only in the privileged environment of the school, but also within the various educational and sporting institutions of the State, local authorities and the private sector (sports federations, associations, health education organizations, companies).

Further study is possible in one of the STAPS Masters offered at UM1.

Due to the limited capacity of this program, applications from baccalaureate holders from the Académie de Montpellier, and from high school students preparing a French baccalaureate abroad, will be given priority.

Whatever the candidate's profile, applications must be made on ParcourSup.

Necessary prerequisites

For several years now, we've been noticing a significant increase in the number of applicants wishing to join the UFR STAPS. We keep repeating that the most important thing is not to enter the UFR STAPS, but to leave with a diploma. Too many students fail in their studies because they don't understand the true nature of the training provided in our UFR, which is often wrongly regarded as a sports training center.

Enrolling in STAPS only makes sense if you have a solid career plan, and the ability and motivation to pursue university studies right through to a Bachelor's degree. STAPS studies are undoubtedly exciting and varied, but certainly not easy. We do all we can to help students in difficulty, and to diversify our teaching procedures and training courses. Over the last four years, we've been able to raise our success rates by more than 15 points.
