- Mendelian genetics
- Biology of animal and plant gametogenesis, and animal and plant embryonic and post-embryonic development
- Post-embryonic development in animals (osteogenesis) and plants (primary and secondary growth)
- Genomics: eukaryotic, bacterial, and viral genomes; expression of genetic information and protein targeting; replication.
