Description
TD in English, for students in the "L3 Bioproduction and Biotechnologies for Health" program, aiming for professional autonomy in English.
Objectives
Reinforce and consolidate linguistic foundations according to the 5 language skills described by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), to prepare students for the context of a professional environment where English can present itself in many different ways:
- interactions in English with foreign colleagues.
- use of equipment, software and user manuals in English only.
- Participation in training courses, seminars and international conferences.
Specific objectives:
- Increased practice of oral expression.
- Vocabulary and grammar: basic communication skills for describing and discussing materials and equipment (learning and communicating about their use); special attention to the use of the passive voice (used for describing materials and methods).
- Technical and specific vocabulary: consumables (samples, products, etc.) and equipment (machine parts, computer language, etc.).

Mandatory prerequisites
Written and oral comprehension, notions of grammar and advanced written and oral expression skills (for example, CEFR level B1 on entry does not guarantee validation of level B2 at the end of the course).
Knowledge control
Continuous assessment - Attendance and active participation are required.
Syllabus
- Listening comprehension - Audiovisual aids: for example, a tutorial video on the use of equipment.
- Reading comprehension - From instruction manuals or articles and reviews in the scientific press.
- Oral interaction - Interviews and group work: e.g. solving a technical problem (during a telephone conversation with a technician/technical support)
- Written expression - Writing instructions, protocols and descriptions of technical procedures.
- Oral expression in individual presentations: presentation of an experiment or equipment.
