Paleoenvironments and biostratigraphy

The aim of this course is to synthesize concepts and knowledge acquired in L1 and L2 (stratigraphy, sedimentology, and history of life) and reinforce them with concepts from sedimentology, biostratigraphy, and anatomy. Together, these concepts provide the keys to surface geology for analyzing and reconstructing ancient depositional environments and interpreting their fossil content in a temporal context.

This course provides useful knowledge for further study in certain Master's programs (surface geology in general, UM Master's in Exploration and Reservoir Geology, UM Master's in Paleontology).

- Apply fundamental concepts and their applications in sedimentology, stratigraphy, and paleontology to address an issue in the field and/or analyze a research paper or presentation.

- Identify and select various specialized resources to document a topic 

- Analyze and synthesize data for use 

- Develop arguments with logic and critical thinking 

- Ability to successfully complete a project within a group
