Integrated Biology of Marine Mammals

An interdisciplinary course designed to provide general and scientific knowledge about marine mammals 

The objective of this interdisciplinary course is to acquire integrative and transdisciplinary scientific knowledge (paleontology, phylogeny, evolutionary history, embryology, anatomical and physiological adaptations, bioacoustics, behavior, ecology, threats and conservation, social sciences and humanities (current and past interactions with humans)) using marine mammal models (cetaceans, pinnipeds, sirenians, polar bears, and sea otters) as a common thread.

In particular, this course unit enables students to draw upon key concepts learned in various other disciplinary course units (ecology, evolution, and biological optics) and apply and transfer them to a specific taxonomic group.

Recommended prerequisites*: General knowledge of biology and ecology

1 written exam (1 hour 30 minutes) / 2 sessions: 80%
