Objectives
Objectives*:
The main purpose of this unit is to define the notions of population (a group of individuals whose size and genetic composition are monitored and which evolves), species (a set of populations exchanging genes), community (a set of species playing a similar role in an ecosystem) and ecosystem (a biocenosis in a biotope, whose energy flows and material exchanges are studied). It gives a first vision of evolution by natural selection, while recognizing the part played by chance. It connects elements of organism biology (diet, habitat) with relationships between species in an ecosystem (biotic interactions, food chain, flows of matter and energy). It allows the implementation of the main principles of organism sampling and defines a first approach to biodiversity. It considers all these concepts in their application to conservation biology and the use of sustainable resources in order to familiarize students with " The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (1992 )
