- 3 three-hour practical sessions
- 1 Scientific conferences
Objectives
Objectives:
The main purpose of this unit is to define the concepts of population (a group of individuals whose numbers and genetic composition are monitored and which evolves), species (a group of populations that exchange genes), community (a group of species that play a similar role in an ecosystem), and ecosystem (biocenosis in a biotope, whose energy flows and material exchanges are studied). It provides an initial overview of evolution through natural selection, while acknowledging the role of chance. It connects elements of organism biology (diet, habitat) with relationships between species in an ecosystem (biotic interactions, food chain, material and energy flows). It enables the implementation of the main principles of organism sampling and the definition of an initial approach to biodiversity. It considers all these concepts in their application to conservation biology and the sustainable use of resources in order to familiarize students with, in particular, the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (1992).
