Description
Cross-disciplinary course enabling students to acquire general and scientific knowledge about marine mammals
Objectives
The objective of this cross-disciplinary course unit is to acquire integrative and transdisciplinary scientific knowledge (paleontology, phylogeny, evolutionary history, embryology, anatomical and physiological adaptations, bioacoustics, behavior, ecology, threats and conservation, social sciences and humanities (current and past interactions with humans)) using marine mammal biological models (cetaceans, pinnipeds, sirenians, polar bears, sea otters) as a common thread.
This course unit enables students to draw on key concepts acquired in various other disciplinary course units (ecol/evol/BO) and apply and transfer them to a specific taxonomic group.
