Lie Groups and Lie Algebras

This course unit complements the differential geometry course in the M1 Fundamental Mathematics program. In this course, we apply the concepts from that course to the study of classical Lie groups.

Recommended prerequisites: the “Differential Geometry” course from the M1 in Fundamental Mathematics at the University of Montpellier.

1. The concept of a Lie group. Standard examples: the closed subgroups of_GLn.
2. The concept of a Lie algebra. Invariant vector fields. Standard examples: the Lie subalgebras of_gln.
3. The exponential function.
