Overview
After earning a Master’s degree in science, an engineering degree, or an equivalent qualification, you are interested in gaining dual expertise in the field of business management. The IAE in Montpellier offers the MAE Master’s program (primarily in the second year, M2)
. This degree program in business administration and management is designed for students without a background in management. It provides a broad-based education as well as in-depth training in one of the following three specializations (state-recognized tracks):
- Project Manager - Management Accounting
- Product Manager - Marketing Department
- Functional Business Unit Manager
Objectives
The MAE program aims to provide management training to non-management specialists with an “engineering” or scientific background.
In the many sectors where technology is constantly evolving and innovation is ongoing, this dual skill set is key to the successful integration and career advancement of the managers trained through the program. In fact, it provides them with two significant advantages:
- Better integration and career advancement within the company, thanks to greater recognition and the ability to communicate with the technical community (knowledge and recognition by peers with “scientific” backgrounds working in “production,” “R&D,” “sourcing,” and other roles)
- A greater ability to manage innovative projects and products, thanks to a thorough understanding of both technical and managerial aspects.

This master's program is organized over two years and four semesters (S1 through S4) or over one year (S3 and S4).
The first semester of the M1 program consists of core courses. Students choose their specialization in the second semester.
The Master’s 2 program is divided into three phases: acquisition of foundational knowledge (3 months), career-oriented specialization (3 months), and an internship (6 months). The internship, which is aligned with the specialization, serves as a true springboard into the professional world. It allows students to apply their academic knowledge in practice and often leads to a fixed-term or permanent contract.

The first year of the master's program consists of two semesters. The first semester covers the core curriculum. Students choose their specialization in the second semester.
The Master 2 program runs from late September through late March. It is followed by a 6-month internship, from April through September.

Business Management (Returning to School)
With a background in the sciences (Master’s degree, engineering degree, pharmacist, physician, etc.), you are currently employed and wish to gain dual expertise in the field of business administration and management. The IAE Montpellier offers the MAE in Business Management (a two-year part-time program) through its Continuing Education program.
This Master’s program provides a broad foundation in business administration and management, as well as in-depth study in the following two tracks:
- Project Management
- Functional Business Unit Management
The program takes place at the IAE in Montpellier from early September through late February of year n+2.
This part-time format allows students to balance their studies with their professional commitments.
Admission
Target Audience
Profile: engineers, scientists, pharmacists, doctors, etc., who are highly motivated to pursue a career in management.
Mandatory Prerequisites
Admission to the M1 program:
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (Bac+4) (240 ECTS) or equivalent. Candidates with backgrounds in engineering, science, medicine, etc.
Admission to the M2 program:
Provide proof of a Bac+5 degree (300 ECTS) or equivalent. For continuing education: if you do not hold a Bac+5 degree, you must have significant professional experience and a track record of professional development to be eligible to apply for the Validation of Professional Experience (VAP) process.

Expected Results
The Mon Master platform displays two “salaried employment rates in France” for each program at 6 and 18 months. These two rates, known as “INSERSUP” rates, exclude graduates working in the self-employed sector, business owners, artisans, or those working abroad. These rates therefore do not reflect the reality of professional integration. Furthermore, some Mon Master programs do not display INSERSUP rates because, since the employment rate in France effectively excludes many graduates who are already employed, the threshold for statistical reliability is no longer met.
To obtain completely reliable information covering all graduates who entered the job market directly without continuing their studies, we recommend that you visit the University of Montpellier’s website (https://osipe.edu.umontpellier.fr). These employment rates are calculated at the 30-month mark (number of graduates in employment / number of graduates who are either employed or seeking employment). This data is collected by OSIPE (Observatory for Student Monitoring and Professional Integration).
