Presentation
The CEI master's program is part of the Innovation Management specialization, along with 3 other programs: Management of Innovative Projects (MPI), e-Marketing and Management of Digital Transformation (MTD).
The aim of this program is to enable students to carry out a professional project in the field of innovation with a major orientation (one of the programs), while integrating a high degree of transversality between these 4 orientations by linking innovation X digital X marketing X strategy (business model).
The Master's degree in Creating Innovative Companies (CEI) includes specialized seminars, an assignment in an innovative company and an internship.
The program alternates academic training with hands-on experience in managing innovative projects and creating innovative companies, in partnership with professionals working with companies in
development through innovation.
Objectives
The CEI Master's degree is aimed at people whose objectives are:
► To lead a personal project to set up a company involving the implementation of new products or services
► To manage a project or assignment within an innovative company.
► To develop consulting or research activities in innovation and entrepreneurship.
The two CEI courses correspond mainly to the objective of setting up an innovative company, but also to consulting and support activities in innovation and entrepreneurship. Our vision of innovation management is primarily entrepreneurial, which explains the strong link between the CEI and MPI courses.
Know-how and skills
This original positioning enables a cross-disciplinary approach to all subjects. It emphasizes competencies, particularly cross-disciplinary competencies and soft skills, which have been the foundation of the Master's pedagogy since its inception in 2001, with the creation of the CEI Master's degree: teamwork, autonomy, problem-solving, communication, critical thinking.
Courses and activities emphasize active, experiential teaching. There are strong synergies between the courses in the specialization, enabling a broad sharing of courses and closer links between students from different courses. In particular, the Disrupt Campus Montpellier program is integrated into the 4 courses in the specialization, providing innovative pedagogical support for the digital transformation of companies: https://digitalstudentchallenge.umontpellier.fr
Finally, the development of a truly open mind among students is encouraged by innovative and entrepreneurial approaches to management (design thinking, lean startup, agile method, Lego Serious Play, Disrupt Campus Montpellier program, etc.).

Access conditions
For the CEI pathway, recruitment favors students with a project to set up an innovative company. Previous experience is not specifically a recruitment criterion, even though the other 3 courses in the specialization focus on dual skills, i.e., students who do not come from an economics or management background (e.g., science or technology, engineering, sports, law, psychology, etc.). The applicant's motivation and sensitivity to innovation, as well as his or her entrepreneurial and innovative skills, are essential elements in the assessment process. Work-study training is favored (apprenticeship or professional contract): it is considered an integral part of the professional project, which is an element in the recruitment assessment.
Indeed, the Master's program is designed to enable students to develop a work-study professional project: course periods alternate with periods in the company. Students can also work on their business start-up project during work-study periods, as part of the PEPITE status.
Students can also pursue a PhD as part of the double degree program with the Master REM Research and Management Studies.
