Description
Training course offered by UMR MARBEC at its Sète, France, location. This module explores the current context of fisheries and global climate change as they affect the dynamics of marine ecosystems. With the aim of better understanding and predicting the effects of fisheries and climate on marine ecosystems, the course is structured around identifying uses, assessment methods, and modeling of marine resource dynamics.
Summary of the learning unit:
Interactions between resources and fisheries. Analysis of marine trophic interactions. Temporal dynamics of fished fish populations (species alternation, recruitment). Modeling of predator-prey systems. Bioenergetic modeling (DEB model). Analysis and processing of catch and fishing effort data. Data analysis using GLM and GAM.
Objectives
- Gain specialized knowledge on research topics in the ecology of exploited marine resources.
- Acquire general, practical, and fundamental knowledge about the marine and coastal environment.
- To enable students to better understand the environmental, social, and economic challenges associated with the conservation, sustainable use, and management of living marine resources.
Class Hours
- Use and Assessment of Marine Resources - TutorialTutorials3:00 p.m.
Mandatory Prerequisites
Master's Degree (Year 1) in Marine Biology, Ecology, or Marine Eco-ethology.
Knowledge Assessment
Oral-control terminal.
