Description
This course, which focuses on the fundamentals of digital electronics, is structured in a unique way around a technical project—carried out individually or in pairs—whose progress will follow the pace of the associated lectures.
Each project topic will be assigned at the beginning of the course.
The key concepts of digital electronics will be explored in depth through lectures, and lab sessions will supplement the theoretical aspects to guide the project’s progress.
Objectives
- To impart theoretical knowledge of digital electronics through the design of a technical project during the course.
- Teach students to work independently within a set time frame on a specific topic.
- Teach students to present concrete results from their work and to justify them in writing and/or orally.
Mandatory Prerequisites
- Bachelor's-level proficiency in "Signal Processing."
- Programming
Recommended prerequisites*:
- Have a basic understanding of analog signal processing
- Have a basic understanding of signal modulation
- Algorithms
Knowledge Assessment
Two objectives will be established at the beginning of the course unit based on the project specifications:
- A Goal to Achieve
- A minimum target for EU approval
The student, or the pair, will be evaluated on their project (theory and practice). They will submit a report on the proposed topic and may be asked to attend an oral presentation to discuss their work.
Session 2 will consist of a written (or oral) exam and/or practical assignments.
Course Outline
- Multiplexed analog-to-digital conversions,
- Line coding,
- Digital Information Format,
- Wired data transmission (I2C/SPI) or wireless,
- Digital Modulations: Amplitude (ASK), Frequency (FSK), Phase (PSK), QAM, RFID/NFC
