Description
The physiology practical course enables you to record cardiac action potentials on frog hearts using the intracellular microelectrode technique. This is a qualitative and quantitative method for measuring the electrical activity of cardiac muscle.
Objectives
The aim is to enable students to carry out an experiment under the same conditions as those used in a laboratory, from set-up to acquisition, analysis and presentation of data, with an oral group examination.
The experiments involve assessing the side effects of molecules on cardiac electrical activity, by recording action potentials and studying changes in their specific parameters. This type of study enables them to understand how the side effects of molecules under development for human or veterinary therapeutic purposes are assessed on the cardiovascular system in the pre-clinical phase.
Necessary prerequisites
Basic knowledge of the physiology of the body's major functions and of the physiology of the cardiovascular system, normally taught to students at undergraduate level 2 and 3.
Recommended prerequisites: No prerequisites are recommended, as all Master 1 Biology-Health students can take this course. For some of these courses, a basic knowledge of electrophysiology has been taught in Licence 3 and is a plus, but not necessary to follow this course.
Knowledge control
An oral exam before a jury made up of the lecturers is carried out in groups, with a mark for each student in the group and each group formed.
