Description
This course unit is offered to students in the third year of the professional bachelor's degree program in "Plant Experimentation for the Improvement and Protection of Mediterranean and Tropical Plants." Its objective is to present (or review, depending on the students' curriculum) the basic concepts of agronomy concerning (1) the functioning of the "plant" system in interaction with its environment and ecosystem, (2) soil parameters influencing plant growth, and (3) climate parameters influencing crop development and yield. Certain important topics (phytopathology, soil ecology, experimentation, irrigation, yield modeling) are then explored in greater depth through specialized lectures. Students learn how to apply these concepts and understand the relationships between them through plant experimentation and the study of articles and case studies.
Objectives
Knowledge
- master the basic concepts of agronomy
- enrich one's knowledge with specialized concepts on certain important topics in agronomy
- manipulate the relationships between these concepts established by experimentation
- critically analyze experimental results in order to draw reasoned conclusions
Know-how
- gather reliable information to expand one's knowledge on an agronomy topic
- carry out this work in an organized and independent manner, individually or in a group
