Presentation
The Economics and Political Science degree at the University of Montpellier is a selective, multidisciplinary three-year program offering a dual degree that combines the fundamentals of economics and political science in a challenging way. Unique in France, it allows students to develop dual skills for analyzing contemporary economic, institutional, and political issues and informing public and private decision-making.
The program is part of a dynamic of excellence, with the possibility of continuing on to a dual-discipline master's degree in Economics and Political Science, "Governance of Societies and Territories in Transition (GSTT)," offering in-depth specialization and a rare academic and professional positioning.

Organization
Knowledge assessment
The bachelor's degree at the University of Montpellier, structured over three years and six semesters, is based on an assessment system designed to measure students' learning progressively and comprehensively. At the end of each semester, the skills, competencies, and knowledge acquired in each teaching unit (UE) are assessed in one of two ways: continuous assessment or a final exam.
Continuous assessment allows for regular monitoring of student progress through several forms of evaluation: supervised assignments, graded tutorials, presentations, projects, document analysis, and active participation in class. This method encourages attendance, regular work, and the gradual acquisition of skills.
The final exam consists of a written or oral test held at the end of the semester. It aims to assess the student's overall mastery of the concepts taught and their ability to apply their knowledge in a structured and in-depth manner.
The program also includes a major interdisciplinary oral exam. This cross-disciplinary test requires students to draw on both economics and political science to analyze a contemporary issue.
It assesses the student's ability to synthesize, argue, apply an interdisciplinary perspective, and give oral presentations. This final oral exam is a highlight of the program and validates the coherence of the dual skills acquired.
Special facilities
Students with disabilities, young entrepreneurs, and high-level athletes can benefit from personalized support.
This may take the form of study arrangements, educational adaptations, or specific rights, in order to enable them to best balance their personal or professional constraints with their university education. Depending on the situation, these measures may include an adapted schedule, adjusted assessment methods, attendance facilities, individualized monitoring, or dedicated support services.
Internships, supervised projects
Internship | Possible |
|---|
A true immersion in the professional world, it allows students to apply the knowledge they have acquired in class, discover how organizations work, and compare theory with practice. To get the most out of it, serious preparation is essential: learning about the host organization, defining your objectives, mobilizing your skills, and preparing for professional demands.
During a bachelor's degree, internships are possible and optional. They must be related to the course of study.
The internship may begin at the end of the second semester exams or be completed during university vacation periods. In any case, it must end no later than August 31.
Please note: students may only begin their internship immediately after the second semester exams if they have successfully completed their year in the first session.
Program
The program lasts three years, or six semesters.

Dual degree in Economics and Political Science
The dual degree in Economics and Political Science is a selective program with limited capacity offered at the University of Montpellier.
Resolutely multidisciplinary, this program meets the needs of emerging and promising professions, particularly in the fields ofthe environment, energy, decision support, project development, transnational governance, and the regulation of complex societies. It aims to train executives with dual expertise in economics and political science, and more broadly in social sciences and the analysis of national and international institutions, who are capable of holding positions of responsibility in the public and private sectors, both in France and internationally.
In practical terms, students follow the core courses of both bachelor's degrees: the bachelor's degree in economics (Richter campus) and the bachelor's degree in political science (Faculty of Law and Political Science). The University of Montpellier is one of the few institutions to offer this type of integrated dual degree program.
The validation of the program includes a major oral examination covering both disciplines, highlighting the cross-disciplinary contribution of the two fields to the analysis of the contemporary world. The dual skills acquired then provide access to the best master's programs in each discipline as well as multidisciplinary master's programs geared toward the professions of the future.
