Supervised Projects, Semester 6

In Semester 6, students will have the choice between two types of student projects: (1) setting up a “Scientific Partners for the Classroom” (ASTEP) program, or (2) developing a protocol for Data Acquisition and Processing (ATD). For the ASTEP project, students will carry out a science outreach project with preschool or elementary school classes in the Hérault region (scientific topics defined by partner schools). Students will then need to develop one or more experiments to conduct with the classes, collect data with the students, and teach scientific concepts to the participating students. For the ATD project, students will need to propose a data acquisition protocol to answer a scientific question of their choice. This protocol may be carried out in the field, in a laboratory, or consist of a meta-analysis.

Continuous assessment consists of: (1) writing a report on the activities carried out, the results obtained, and the analyses conducted; (2) giving an oral presentation summarizing this report.

- Be able to establish scientific and educational protocols that enable the practical implementation of research projects;

- Be able to adapt to an audience in order to convey scientific concepts without distorting them;

- Respond to pedagogical and/or scientific criticism;

- Be able to prepare written reports or other instructional materials and present them orally in a convincing manner;

- Work in collaboration with a research advisor.
