Description

This first module of Fluid Mechanics aims to provide basic elements on the behavior of industrial fluids (air, water, hydraulic fluid) in order to dimension simple systems involving fluid in static or dynamic (flow rates, pressure, speed, pressure drops,...). Emphasis is placed on the study and design of hydraulic installations.

Objectives

  • Determine the forces exerted on a solid surface by a fluid at rest or by a perfect fluid in motion
  • Characterize a simple perfect fluid flow (flow, velocity, pressure)
  • Sizing a hydraulic network (1D model, taking into account pressure drops, choice of a pump)
  • Determine aerodynamic forces and know technological solutions influencing these forces
  • Conduct a dimensional analysis to study a phenomenon using a scale model

Necessary pre-requisites

Kinematics and statics of the solid (notion of force, moment, principle of reciprocal actions, speed and acceleration of a point)

Simple materials and structures (dimensional analysis, concept of stress)

Solid state dynamics (fundamental principle of dynamics)

Thermodynamics (concept of work, law of perfect gases)
