Description

In this course, we will go through each stage of the life cycle of organisms (mainly in metazoans and angiosperms) through a series of practical exercises covering: embryonic development (including organ development, cell differentiation and growth processes), acquisition of reproductive capacity (including the stages associated with meiosis and gametogenesis), and fertilization. This series of assignments is combined with a series of tutorials to address problems in the transmission of genetic information.

Objectives

By following this course, you will be able to identify on histological sections the cell types responsible for developmental dynamics, growth, and reproduction in angiosperms and metazoans; and to solve Mendelian genetic problems involving dominance, sex and epistasis effects.

Necessary pre-requisites

You must be registered in HAV210B to also register in HAV209B.

Among the UEs of L1S1, you must have validated :

HAV101V From molecule to cell: a good knowledge of the cell's constituents and their function is expected

HAV107B From cells to organisms: knowledge of the functions performed by all multi-cellular biological organisms, and knowledge of the diversity of these organisms is expected

HAV108B From organisms to ecosystems: a minimum knowledge of the relationship between an organism and its environment is expected

Recommended prerequisites*:

In addition to the knowledge acquired in L1S1, it is recommended to have solved Mendelian genetics problems at the high school level, to know the processes of mitosis and meiosis, and the differences between these two processes.

Knowledge control

The acquisition of competences in this UE will be evaluated by continuous assessment through reports of practical work, homework (genetics exercises) and homework.
