Presentation
The first year of the mathematics degree program (L1 Mathematics and Applications) is a time for acquiring fundamental knowledge and orientation. A first group of teaching units provides a foundation of knowledge and skills that are essential for all students of mathematics, whatever their future role or sector of activity. These teaching units are based on the following fundamental pillars: Algebra, Analysis, Geometry, Arithmetic and Enumeration.
A second group of teaching units complements the training program and the transition from high school to university. It consists of a choice between Calculus and Remediation and an English course. If you choose the computer science minor, this also includes lessons in algorithmics and programming.
Objectives
- Acquire a solid knowledge of mathematics
- Acquire abstraction and problem-solving skills
- Acquire writing and expression skills
- Learn to program
- Develop a working method, a spirit of synthesis, precision and rigor
Know-how and skills
The skills acquired during the 3 years of the mathematics bachelor's degree enable students to acquire in-depth knowledge of mathematics, enabling them to go on to various master's degrees in fundamental mathematics, teaching or mathematical applications.
The first year of the bachelor's degree lays the foundations for developing these skills.
Program
The year is divided into 2 semesters:
Semester 1:
- English S1 (1 ECTS)
- Reasoning and Set Theory (2 ECTS)
- Algebra I Linear systems (5 ECTS)
- Analysis I Functions of one variable and sequences (5 ECTS)
- Geometry in the plane, space and complex plane (4 ECTS)
- Remediation in mathematics or Calculus (3 ECTS)
- Algorithms 1 (5 ECTS)
- Functional programming (5 ECTS)
Semester 2:
- English S2 (2 ECTS)
- Analysis II Suites, series, limited developments (6 ECTS)
- Algebra II Vector spaces and linear applications (6 ECTS)
- Arithmetic and counting (6 ECTS)
- Remediation in mathematics or Calculus (3 ECTS)
