Overview
The SAFIR program examines the development, evolution, and transmission of knowledge and explores different conceptions of learning. It aims to build skills in training-
—related to engineering practices—as well as skills in analyzing situations that closely reflect the actual work of professionals in the fields of education and training. The trainer’s identity and professionalism are developed within a community of practice through research and the implementation of research-based training initiatives.
Drawing on various fields of research in the sciences of education and training,
this program brings together a multidisciplinary team of faculty members and faculty-researchers.
Objectives
This program is part of a framework for continuing education and the certification of professional competencies. Upon completion of the master’s degree, students may also pursue a doctoral degree. This program is designed to enable professionals in education, teaching, and training to advance within their current institution or at other institutions. It may also open the door to career advancement in research roles within the field of education and training.
Expertise and Skills
The training content is structured around:
Theoretical insights into the development, evolution, and transmission of knowledge (including disciplinary knowledge and skills, didactic and inter-didactic expertise, etc.) in the field of educational training, from epistemological, historical, didactic, and methodological perspectives.
Questions regarding the design, management, support, and evaluation of training programs. The perspective adopted is that of training engineering practices—in both initial and continuing education, at the university and institutional levels—while incorporating the issue of the trainer’s actual work.
And a personal research project that leads to the completion of a thesis based on a training-related issue, supervised by an advisor and shared with all students during research seminars.
Program
Designed to be taken while continuing to work, the program is based on three components:
Block sessions lasting several consecutive days during the fall, winter, and spring school breaks. A research seminar spread out over the entire year. Individualized support from an advisor for the development of the thesis. The program takes place on the Montpellier campus, and the research seminar can also be taken
in Nîmes. A digital platform provides access to various resources: course materials, bibliographic references, activities, and discussion forums.

Admission
Admission Requirements
This two-year program (M1 and M2) is open to applicants who meet the following requirements: hold a L3 degree or equivalent (BAC +3) and submit an application (cover letter and resume) demonstrating an interest, a career plan, or practical experience in the field of educational training.
Admission to the program may also be granted through recognition of prior professional experience upon submission of an application (VAP85).
