Overview
The program focuses on developing disciplinary and theoretical knowledge, drawing on the humanities (sociology, education, psychology, history, and philosophy). As part of the preparation for the CPE competitive exam, the program helps students develop an understanding of institutional culture, as well as that of emerging professions in the social sector. It examines the practices, values, and frameworks of key stakeholders in specific contexts and within the framework of educational partnerships. This program includes training in—and through—research.

Objectives
The program is designed for candidates taking the external competitive examination for Senior Educational Advisor (CPE). It prepares students for the written portions of the exam by offering courses in the humanities and social sciences taught by faculty members (history, philosophy and sociology of education, adolescent psychology, public policy, and pedagogy), as well as training in the methodology of essay writing and analytical reports. Courses covering the institutional context (understanding the profession, the organization and functioning of the education system, and ethical and legal issues) are primarily taught by professionals from the French Ministry of Education. The program also prepares students for the oral exams through intensive practice in interviews and professional role-playing exercises. Finally, the program provides an introduction to research.
Expertise and Skills
The program is based on the professional competency framework for teaching and education professions, and more specifically on the competencies required of CPEs (decree of July 1, 2013). Students develop skills in analyzing professional situations in school life, supporting students, project planning, conducting interviews, and team management. The program enables students to master subject-specific knowledge related to education and to develop a reflective approach grounded in research.

The program offers courses in the humanities and social sciences, preparation for the written and oral portions of the competitive exam (see new exam format for 2022), support for professional development—particularly through professional role-playing exercises and their analysis—an introduction to research, and guidance in writing a thesis focused on the field of education. The program strives to meet the threefold requirement of professional development, high-level education through the integration of academic knowledge, research, and the development of professional skills, and preparation for the CPE competitive exam.
Classes are concentrated over three days a week. The program includes a field observation and supervised practicum in the first year of the master’s program, and work-study or supervised practicum placements in the second year.

Admission Requirements
Students must provide proof of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification at the time of enrollment in the M1 program.
An admissions committee decides on admissions based on available spots.
The competitive examination for recruitment of senior educational counselors (CPE) takes place at the end of the M2 year (qualifying exams—written exams—and admission exams—oral exams—).

Target Audience
All students who hold a bachelor's degree or an equivalent or higher degree.
However, the faculty reviews the consistency of students’ applications (cover letter and resume) before admitting them to the program.
