- Master's Degree in Comparative Politics and Public Policy
Program Director: Laura MICHEL
The IDIL Master's degree in Comparative Politics and Public Policy is a selective master's degree specializing in political science with an interdisciplinary approach. It focuses primarily on political sociology and public policy analysis.
Offered by the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Montpellier, this master's degree in political science (one of three offered by the institution) is the only one in France classified as "Comparative Politics." In this regard, it emphasizes an openness to international comparison as a research approach, in the profiles of students and teachers, and in the use of English as the working language.
Example of teaching units:
- International politics
- Political sociology of elites
- European political institutions
The Master's degree in Comparative Politics and Public Policy is a two-year program (120 ECTS credits as a single track in the Comparative Politics major) that offers an in-depth program in political science specializing in political sociology and public policy with an international perspective.
It offers preparation for all professions requiring intensive work skills, mastery of rigorous methods, critical synthesis, the development of solid and convincing arguments, and advanced analysis, both in applied fields (public or private sector professions) and fundamental fields (research training). For students wishing to pursue doctoral studies (at the University of Montpellier or other universities in France or abroad), it is the preferred program.
The working languages are French and English.
Objectives
Upon completion of their studies, Master's degree holders will have acquired the ability to work intensively, synthesize information, master methods for analyzing complex situations, and gain knowledge of the political world and public policy.
Program
The program is organized into four semesters: two semesters of teaching in M1 (lectures and tutorials, shared with other political science master's programs) (except in cases of international mobility for students from Montpellier's L3 Political Science program), one semester of teaching through research seminars (M2), and one semester for the completion of the M2 thesis (or internship).
