Comparative Politics
- Master in Politics and Comparative Public Action
Coordinator: Laura MICHEL
The IDIL "Comparative Politics and Public Action" Master's degree is a selective, multi-disciplinary specialization in political science. It focuses primarily on the fields of political sociology and public policy analysis.
Offered by the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Montpellier, this Master's degree in political science (one of three at the university) is the only one in France to be offered under the heading of "Comparative Politics". In this respect, it emphasizes sensitivity to international comparative openness as a research approach, in the profile of students and lecturers and in the use of English as a working language.
Example of teaching units :
- International politics
- Political sociology of elites
- European political institutions
The "Comparative Politics and Public Action" Master's degree is a two-year program (120 ECTS as the only course in the "Comparative Politics" specialization) offering an in-depth program in political science, specializing in political sociology and public policy, with an international outlook.
It prepares students for all professions requiring intensive work, rigorous methods, critical synthesis, solid and convincing argumentation and advanced analysis, whether applied (public or private sector jobs) or fundamental (research training). For students wishing to pursue doctoral studies (at the University of Montpellier or other universities in France or abroad), it is the preferred course of study.
The working languages are French and English.
Objectives
At the end of their training, Master's graduates have the ability to work intensively, the capacity to synthesize, the mastery of methods for analyzing complex situations, and knowledge of the world of politics and public action.
Program
The program is organized into 4 semesters: 2 for teaching in M1 (lectures and tutorials, shared with other political science masters programs) (except in the case of international mobility for students from Montpellier's L3 Political Science program), 1 for teaching through research seminars (M2) and 1 for preparing the M2 dissertation (or internship).
