TER 1

This course is designed to enable students to revisit and explore in greater depth certain theoretical and methodological concepts in the pedagogy, communication, or history and epistemology of science. The goal is to develop a research project on a topic and research question defined by the student with the assistance of a faculty advisor. This project can be conceived as a continuation of the work required for the Master’s thesis in the second year of the program. It is intended as an introduction to research.

Students develop a research problem based on initial questions and bibliographic sources. They identify one or more specific research questions and outline the work to be completed in the second semester.

• Be able to search for articles and compile a relevant bibliography on a given topic.

• Be able to define a topic and specific questions, compile a sufficiently detailed bibliography, and identify a research problem that will enable the conduct of a well-defined research project within a limited timeframe.

• Develop an appropriate methodology in the field of one of the didactics of the scientific disciplines that enables the analysis of teaching or outreach situations (mathematics, physics and chemistry, life and earth sciences), whether or not these are related to the history and epistemology of science (work with sources, archives, etc.).

• Be able to report on one's work in writing, defend it orally, and evaluate it critically.
