Opening

The purpose of the Introductory Courses (UEO) is to allow students to explore courses that are different from and complementary to those in their degree program, and to recognize, through a grade that counts toward the semester GPA, students’ commitment to activities aimed at personalizing their academic path.

Depending on the type of program chosen, this course may be designed to deepen students’ subject-specific knowledge and develop cross-disciplinary skills that support academic success, employability, and/or the full exercise of citizenship.

In specific cases where a student has already completed and earned credit for a master’s-level program, this introductory course unit may be subject to a recognition of prior learning (RPL) process, thereby exempting the student from taking this introductory course unit.

The assessment of this course unit in the DDS master’s program will be separate from that of the course unit in the introductory track. It will primarily consist of a 2- to 3-page report that includes: a brief description of the content of the UEO module taken, the activities completed as part of this module, and the student’s reflections on how this UEO module has contributed to their personal educational journey and career goals. 

This report should therefore highlight the student’s involvement in UEO activities and explain how the course content contributes to deepening disciplinary knowledge and developing transferable skills that support academic success, employability, and/or the full exercise of citizenship. 

The WEU assessment as part of the Master’s program in Science Education will also take into account: 

• the student’s initial rationale for choosing the UEO; 
• any initial reservations that officials may have had regarding the choice of the WEU; 
• the student’s actual and verified participation in the UEO; 
• Possible evaluation by WEU instructors; the MOOC completion certificate; deadline for submitting documents for evaluation. 

All materials required for the evaluation of the introductory course must be submitted to the course coordinator no later than June 1, 2024.
