Presentation
The IBION-Tec pathway offers students the opportunity to acquire skills at the interface of Engineering Sciences and Life Sciences. This Master's specialization is clearly positioned at the interface between Biology, Physics-Electronics and Chemistry. It opens up students' fields of competence to the innovative, high-performance techniques of biotechnology and nano-biotechnology, facilitating their integration into research centers and industry. This specialization offers a foundation of skills dedicated to the field of biomolecular detection applied to diagnostics.
Its strength lies in its ability to cover a wide range of R&D activities in the fields of diagnostics and traceability, from the molecular to the industrial process scale.
This Master's program focuses on the design of innovative tools dedicated to diagnostics and traceability. This "design part" of the course takes place over the two years of training, giving students access to various technological platforms and practical work rooms. The aim is to work together on a project that can be taken all the way through to feasibility, or even the development of a prototype for one innovation per year in the field of detection techniques.
The quality of life of citizens is at the heart of the training program's concerns, with food safety and healthcare safety taken into account in a context of sustainable development.
IBION-Tec's objective is to provide diagnostic and detection tools for traceability (medical, agronomic, food, etc.) in compliance with European regulations.

Objectives
This training covers 4 main areas of intervention:
- Control of the identity of organisms (prokaryotes / eukaryotes) and products used or consumed, including their quality.
- Detection of chemical and biological pollutants in environments and foodstuffs.
- The fight against fraud in industrial food and non-food products
- Managing innovative projects within the public research-industrial development partnership
This offer is particularly original at regional level, and should also attract students at national and international level.
The Master provides training in the scientific approach through :
- acquisition through practical work (pesticides, active biomolecules, molecular marker identification, etc.) over one or two weeks, with input from researchers, biostatisticians and documentalists.
- acquisition through innovative projects delivered over the two years of training (50 hours in the first year and 100 hours in the second). The projects are developed and monitored by the students themselves. From idea to feasibility, the innovative project must lead to the design of a prototype. The projects are fully supervised by the University's Technology Transfer Department.
- preparation for the internship: Acquisition of skills in writing a report or dissertation summarizing research work (plan, style, bibliography, figures, tables, legends, discussion of results, appendices, English summary).
- five- and six-month M1 and M2 internships in a public or private research laboratory (working in a professional environment, applying the rules of good laboratory practice, conducting experiments, obtaining data which must be processed, analyzed statistically, interpreted, summarizing the literature, writing and presenting a thesis, defending one's work in a limited time before a jury of researchers and engineers, etc.). These two internships provide students with their first professional experience.
Know-how and skills
The course provides access to both business and research careers. The professions resulting from this training are
- Design engineer in diagnostics and detection
- Traceability management engineer
- Analytical laboratory manager
- R & D Project Manager
Types of jobs accessible beyond sensu-stricto skills :
- Production Manager
- Wastewater treatment plant operations manager
- Design and research engineer
- Traceability management engineer
- Hygienist
Organization
Program
The IBION-Tec pathway is divided into 4 semesters, each comprising a number of teaching units (UE) validated by ECTS credits. It follows on from the L3 in Life Sciences. It is a participative learning program for the student.
The first year (M1) of the program is mainly devoted to initiating the innovative project that forms the basis of the program. The 5-month internship completes the M1 program with initial laboratory experience. Through the courses taught over the two semesters, M1 is also a year for acquiring the fundamentals of nanotechnology.
The second year (M2) is devoted to organizing the annual BIOTRACE conference, focusing on communication and exchange with the professional world. M2 is the final stage of the innovative project: Students have two weeks of experimentation to achieve proof of concept or feasibility. The 6-month internship is a professional experience in line with the student's career plan.

And then
Further studies
Depending on the year of the former Dtec-Bio Master's program, 30 to 60% of students go on to complete a thesis. Of these, around 30 to 40% are CIFRE scholarship holders.
We encourage students, especially those wishing to go into entrepreneurship, to continue their studies with a year's specialization in management and business administration (IAE training).
Further study is also possible in a M2 in Bioinformatics or Quality Management.
Studying abroad
Internships can be carried out abroad (the former Dtec-Bio Master's program counted between 1 and 5 M1 and/or M2 internships abroad, depending on the year (USA, Canada, Italy, Spain, Sweden, England).
Bridges and reorientation
Our M1 students can transfer to the Masters in Health Biology, IBIS and BIOTIN.
Professional integration
From M1 onwards, our specialization is committed to giving our students the maximum number of advantages for their job search: Business knowledge, professional project, traceability applications, European legislation, quality approach, project management and organization of a workshop in M2. All these points are integrated into specific courses that provide students with the essential reference points and foundations for their professional integration.
