Objectives

General objectives:

Book-based and field-based determination: understanding the difficulties and constraints of certain taxonomic groups and methods of identifying flora.

Developing a personal approach to identification

 

The course is divided into three sections. Each section is open to continuing education. The order of the sections may be changed depending on the availability of external speakers with expertise in taxonomic groups.

 

Sequence 1: Main characteristics of plants and other groups

Principles and techniques of identification (collections, books, software)

Diversity and major groups (green lineage vs. fungi)

Focus on fungi, lichens, freshwater algae (including characeae), bryophytes (collections, publications, software)

Pteridophytes and Gymnosperms

 

Three 3-hour sessions, followed by independent work (Pl@ntGame, Pl @ ntNet)

 

Sequence 2: Angiosperms

Presentation and introduction to the Flore-Num software

Vegetative morphology and floral organs, fruits, and seeds

Two 3-hour sessions, followed by independent work on writing a report on the characteristics of several families.

Sequence 3 Identification of vascular plants

Presentation of family files

Presentation of the 10 main families

2 sessions of 3 hours
