Description
This module focuses on experimental techniques in chemistry. The first part will be devoted to an overview of health and safety rules in the chemistry laboratory. Each lab session will be preceded by a preparatory tutorial session. At the end of each lab session, students will be required to complete a lab notebook or report (including analysis and interpretation of results, etc.).
Objectives
- Acquire practical skills in the laboratory (weighing, diluting, etc.)
- Follow health and safety guidelines
- Understand an experimental protocol, implement it carefully and thoroughly, and analyze and interpret the results obtained.
- Use the appropriate course concepts
- Perform common chemistry experiments
- Use of precision equipment (glassware, balances, etc.) and analysis of uncertainties.
- Analyze, interpret, and critique experimental results
- Learning How to Report on an Experiment or Procedure
