Description
This module focuses on experimental techniques in chemistry. The first part will be devoted to the presentation of hygiene and safety rules in the chemistry laboratory. Each lab session will be preceded by a preparatory lab session. At the end of each lab session, students will be asked to write up a laboratory notebook/report (analysis, use of results, etc.).
Objectives
- Acquire basic laboratory skills (weighing, dilution, etc.)
- Comply with health and safety regulations
- Understand an experimental protocol, implement it carefully and rigorously, and analyze and interpret the results obtained.
- Use the right course concepts
- Perform standard chemistry set-ups
- Use of precision equipment (glassware, scales, etc.) and analysis of uncertainties.
- Analyze, exploit and criticize experimental results
- Learning to report on an experiment/manipulation
