Description
This course is aimed at computer scientists and presents the main models and results of collective choice.
Objectives
Basing a collective choice on individual opinions is a complex problem... but one that can be tackled with the help of some fairly simple mathematics. This course covers the mathematical formalization of this problem, from the work of Borda and Condorcet (late 18th century) to contemporary developments. The latter open up innovative prospects for improving democratic life. The focus will be on computational choice.
