Overview
This university certificate program provides a comprehensive understanding of older adults. It addresses a need within the field of gerontology and in emerging African countries that wish to establish a culture of gerontology within their institutions and networks.
Objectives
- Understand the older adult in all aspects of their life: medical, psychological, and social.
- Understanding the challenges posed by aging
- Understanding the Psychology of Older Adults and Its Impact on Daily Life
- Use the tools needed to identify people who are at risk and/or vulnerable
- Identify and utilize support and care networks for vulnerable individuals
- Networking in the context of providing support and/or care for vulnerable individuals
Expertise and Skills
- Develop observational and analytical skills to provide care that is as closely tailored as possible to the needs of older adults
- Knowing how to assess the remaining abilities of older adults
