Presentation

The third cycle of medical studies is based on the Examen Classant National (ECN). Depending on their ranking, students choose their future specialty from among 11 disciplines:

- medical specialties

- surgical specialties

- general medicine

- anesthesia - intensive care

- medical biology

- medical gynecology

- gynecology-obstetrics

- occupational medicine

- pediatrics

- psychiatry

- public health and social medicine

Each discipline corresponds to one or more Diplomas of Specialized Studies (DES).

The Diplôme d'Etat de Docteur en Médecine is awarded after :

- validation of the Diploma of Specialized Studies

- the successful defense of a thesis at the end of the internship, during which the student takes the Hippocratic oath.

The length of postgraduate studies varies from 3 years (general medicine: Bac +9) to 5 years (other specialties: Bac +11).
